The house is actually called De Vere House and various shots of the picturesque house created the entire village in the film. It was the birthplace of both Harry and the headmaster of Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore in the film. In the film the house is also featured as it is the final stand of Harry's parents before they are slain by Lord Voldemort and it is the backdrop for where harry receives his characteristic scar.

The doorway of the house comes second to the doorway of Number 10 Downing Street as the most photographed in the UK, so the lucky buyer will have to accept that there will be numerous people taking photos on a daily basis of their front door. The building dates back to medieval times and has a reception room, three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and attic room along with a laundry room. There is also a five star self-catering wing to the house which has its own two double bedrooms, shower room, kitchen and breakfast room, reading room and sitting room. The guests who do stay at the house can watch clips of the Harry Potter films.

The current owner explained how the crew filmed the house and used parts of the house like a three dimensional jigsaw to form the streets of Godric's Hollow. The history of the house as mentions dates back to the 14th century and was owned by the powerful De Vere family from the 14th until the 17th century. Since then it has been known as De Vere Hunting Lodge, Oxford House and Oxford Cottages. The current owners have lived in the property for the last two decades but have decided that the time is right for them to move on. Since being in the property they have restored many ornate decorations and carvings along with medieval paintings. In 1498 historians believe that King Henry V11 visited the house so it is not just the Harry Potter connection that makes this house so unique.

The village of Lavenham, where the house is located, is noted for its abundance of medieval half-timbered cottages and houses. It is one of the most desirable villages in the UK. often coming in the top twenty wealthiest settlements in England. This is why the property has such a high asking price along with the historical connection to the Royal Family and the use of the house in the first Harry Potter film. Any successful buyer would have to abide by the restrictions put in place due to its Grade 1 listing preventing the house being changed much both inside and out so refurbishment would be carefully monitored, if allowed at all.
